Public Health Department, 2180 Johnson Ave. (inside old General Hospital - follow Family Planning / STD Clinic signs), Mondays from 1:00 pm —2:30 pm and Wednesdays from 9:30 am – 11:00 am.
NOTE: Primary Care Physicians will test upon request if you prefer.
HIV/Hep C Testing FAQs:
-
How much does it cost? FREE! Testing is always free, though donations are always appreciated.
-
Do I need an appointment? No, walk-ins are welcome, but you can call to make an appointment to guarantee being seen at a specific time.
-
How long will it take to get my results? It will take 20-40 minutes to run one or both tests and receive results. Results from conventional blood tests take one to two weeks.
-
Can I bring my partner in with me when I test? Your partner/friend/relative may accompany you to the clinic, but no one else may be in the room with you and the test counselor during your assessment and result disclosure.
-
Does my parent or guardian have to come with me if I'm not 18? NO. California law allows anyone 13 years of age to test for HIV anonymously.
-
Will my name be used or reported if I come back positive? Our testing is confidential (a signature and initials are taken for the consent form to test). A confirmatory test is offered if your test comes back preliminary positive for HIV or Hep C antibodies. All confirmed positive results must be forwarded by name to the California Department of Health Services to estimate the rates of HIV or Hepatitis C in the state. The state health department will then remove all personal information about you and share the remaining non-identifying information with CDC. CDC does not share this information with anyone else, including insurance companies.
