Education

My Face, My Voice

"My Face, My Voice,"ASN's Speakers Bureau provides programs for schools, church groups, businesses and service organizations throughout San Luis Obispo County. Our speakers are people who are living with HIV/AIDS or who are directly affected by the virus (family members, life partners). They bring personal stories to their listeners that effectively put a "human face" with the disease. Last year, Speakers educated over 2500 community members about AIDS and its repercussions. To book a speaker, please callĀ Karla Quiroga at 781-3660.

In addition to the Speaker's Bureau, ASN provides education throughout the community by attending informational fairs, college activities and outreach events.

Lending & Resource Library

Lending & Resource Library materials are available to the public at the ASN office. Books, periodicals and brochures cover topics such as basic AIDS information, treatment and dietary information, resources for care givers, etc. Community members can also make appointments with staff to discuss specific issues that may concern them.

Steve Weiss AIDS Living Memorial Grove

The Grove, located in El Chorro Regional Park is a growing memorial to those who are living with HIV/AIDS and those who have died of AIDS. The Grove provides a learning tool for adults and children, provoking discussion on AIDS, awareness, and the power of community. Created with native plants and trees, gardeners are also encouraged to learn more about California plant life.

WORLD AIDS DAY

The AIDS Support Network is working with local schools, businesses and the Mission to present three Human AIDS Ribbons in the community, commemorating World AIDS Day.

We partnered with Cal Poly and SLO High School successfully in the past and they are, once again, going to create these ribbons to raise awareness of HIV and AIDS in the community and around the world.  This year, if you are not connected with those two campuses, you can participate by wearing a red shirt and going to Mission Plaza to be part of the ribbon there.  Click on the location to follow the links on Facebook to each site:

Cal Poly:  11:30 a.m.

SLO High School:  12:15 p.m.

Mission Plaza:  12:45 p.m.

Make this a new annual event for you, your friends and your co-workers!
